How do I check my Instagram account status?

Account Status tells you if you’ve broken Instagram’s rules and if your content can be recommended. Here’s where to find it and what to do about an alert.

Account Status is the section of Instagram that tells you if you’ve posted something that breaks its rules, if there are features you can’t use and if your content can be recommended to people who don’t follow you yet. At Tikful, we recommend checking it once a day, and even more so when the account is new.

How to get to Account Status from the Instagram menu.

How to get there step by step

  1. Open Instagram and tap your profile picture in the bottom right corner.
  2. Tap the menu (☰) in the top right corner.
  3. Scroll almost all the way down, to the More info and support section.
  4. Tap Account Status. You can also get there from Help.

What each section means

  • Removed content. The photos, videos or comments Instagram has taken down for going against its rules.
  • Features you can’t use. Temporary blocks, for example on liking posts, following accounts, sending direct messages or going live.
  • What can’t be recommended. Whether your account can show up in Explore, in Reels and in the feeds of people who don’t follow you. If it can’t, your reach drops sharply.

Instagram also explains this in its Help Center article on Account Status.

What to do if you see an alert

  1. Stop posting and find the post that caused the alert.
  2. If you think it’s a mistake, tap the alert and then Request a review so a person on Instagram’s team takes a look at it.
  3. Fix the cause before you go back to your usual posting pace: for example, put more editing into your clips or review your bio and link.
  4. If Instagram suspends the account and asks to confirm the identity of the person who appears in it, ask the creator for help with a support ticket in Tikful Studio.

Regular checks prevent nasty surprises

A small alert, like content that can’t be recommended, can be fixed in time if you spot it the next day. If you wait until the account stops growing, several posts may already be affected.

To keep from getting to that point, follow the guide to starting a new Instagram account.
